Selected Public Writing

This page contains a selection of pieces written for a popular audience.  Some were posted on my personal blog, Absolute Irony.  Some were published in some little journals and magazines.  I don't have the physical copies anymore, sadly, but here they are.
"We're Not Making AI Genies; We're Making AI Meeseeks." Absolute Irony, blog post. 2026
Following the OpenAI and Hugging Face incident, I wrote this post explaining how the rogue AI agents resembled the "Meeseeks" from Rick and Morty. link to blog post, twitter version, pdf
"The Crisis in Mathematics and the Prospect of AIcademia." Absolute Irony, blog post.  2026.
Following a wave of AI math results, I wrote this post, thinking about the future of math and other academic disciplines.  link to blog post, twitter version, pdf
"What Is It to Be a Meeseeks?"  Absolute Irony, blog post.  2020
A post on how Aristotle's ontological categories can help us understand a strange character in Rick and Morty. link to blog post, pdf
"A Word On Our Being Here." Property Zine, vol. 1. no. 3. 2016.
A short piece on Heidegger’s "question of being." pdf
"Playing the Game of Language: An Introduction to Contemporary Pragmatism." Absolute Irony, blog post. 2014
link to blog post, pdf
"Nagarjuna, Nietzsche, and Rorty's Strange Looping Trick." Absolute Irony, blog post. 2014
This is a version of the epilogue of Talking In Circles, which I posted on my blog.  Huw Price liked it, which is cool. link to blog post, pdf
"Seeing Red, Working Nine to Five, and Wearing Platform Shoes." The Sophist. 2013.
A short piece I wrote about Frank Jackson’s knowledge argument for The Sophist, a philosophy magazine published by Oxford philosophy undergraduates when I was there.  pdf
"The Do-Be Tune." Nude Collage. 2011
A short philosophical dialogue on doing and being.  It ended up being a bit of Talking in Circles, but it was originally written as a stand-alone piece my first year in college, and published in the New College of Florida literary magazine, Nude Collage. It's still maybe my favorite thing I've ever written. pdf
